Days, Months, and Years By: Eric Turner
Over the last few years I have had many conversations with many denominationally loyal Pastors about the Word of our Elohim(God). The usual disagreements are over keeping the Sabbaths, eating clean foods, observing the Feasts as laid down in Lev. 23, and not mixing Pagan customs with the worship of YHVH. I usually try not to paint with a broad brush, but in this case, every Pastor from every different denomination used the same scriptures to prove their points, quite in error if I may add. Let us look at these things we disagree on again.
1. Observance of the 7th Day Sabbath
2. Eating clean foods
3. Observing the Feasts that are commanded for ever in Lev. 23.
4. Mixing the Holy with the Profane, allowing the mixing of Pagan observances with the Worship of YHVH(God’s name)
5. Violation of the Laws of YHVH(God)
The first thing I would like to say is in this teaching I will address the third and fourth agenda on this list, but first I would like to encourage my Bretheren who are out there fighting the good fight to not be discouraged, the Prophets of old dealt with the exact same issues. These same issues are specifically covered by the Prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel writes,
Eze 22:25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. 26 Her priests have VIOLATED MY LAW(Torah), and have profaned mine holy things:THEY HAVE PUT NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY AND PROFANE, NIETHER HAVE THEY SHEWED THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNCLEAN AND CLEAN, AND HAVE HID THEIR EYES FROM MY SABBATHS, and I am profaned among them. 27 Her princes in the midst thereof are like WOLVES RAVENING the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. 28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Sovereign Yahweh,WHEN YAHWEH HATH NOT SPOKEN.
The Prophet names the list in the same manner that I have, or should it better be said that I have laid down the list after the manner of the Prophet. Ezekiel explains that it was the Priests and Prophets of the people of YHVH(God’s name) that made these drastic changes, saying YHVH has spoken when in fact He has not. For this study, we will focus solely on the mixing of Pagan customs with the worship of YHVH(God’s name) and observance of the Feasts laid down in the Torah. The first thing I will say is that Yeshua/Jesus was not born on Christmas, he was born on the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles in the fall. See proof at http://www.betemunah.org/birth.html We see nativity scenes everywhere here in the south during Christmas, and they celebrate it as His Birthday, which is ironic because the word “Christmas” when directly translated means “death of Christ”, so when you say “Merry Christmas” you are saying “happy death of Christ”, being in direct contradiction of the observance of His birth day. Most will say that there is no command to observe His birthday, but on this occasion I must not agree with my peers. If Yeshua was born on the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles, a commanded observance, we are indeed commanded to observe His birthday, but not as the Nations do, we observe it as laid down in the Torah/Law. All the customs that come with Christmas are founded in Pagan idolatry. For more on this, watch 119 Ministries’ teaching “Sunburned” .Easter customs such as dying eggs, sunrise worship services, and “Easter Ham” pretty much is founded in Pagan Idolotry as well. Observing YHVH(God) in the same manner that the Nations worship their gods is forbidden and YHVH hates it. This would be considered mixing the Holy with the profane, one of the issues the Prophet Ezekiel was dealing with in His time.
Deu 12:29 When Yahweh thy Elohim shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land; 30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their elohim, saying, How did these nations serve their elohim? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto Yahweh thy Elohim: for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hateth, have they done unto their elohim; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their elohim. 32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
YHVH hates the ways that the Nations served their gods. We are told NOT to worship YHVH in the same manner as the Nations worshipping their gods. This was the sin of the Golden Calf. YHVH did not say they were following after other gods, and Aaron did not say that the Calf was a different God, Aaron said that the Calf was the same God that brought them out of Egypt, he was not proclaiming the calf to be a different god, but the same God that brought them out of Egypt, he actually declared it a “Feast to YHVH”. Let us examine this.
Exo 32:5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a feast to Yahweh. 6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. 7 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy elohim, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 9 And Yahweh said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
We see that Aaron in his own mind was worshipping YHVH, as also the people did. YHVH said they have corrupted themselves and went away from the way HE commanded them. Israel has a very long history of making these same mistakes over and over again. The same outcome happened when they did these things, they were dispersed or destroyed. They mixed the Pagan customs with the worship of YHVH.
2Ki 17:25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which slew some of them. 26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the Elohim of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the Elohim of the land. 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the Elohim of the land. 28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh. 29 Howbeit every nation made elohim of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. 30 And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the elohim of Sepharvaim. 32 So they feared Yahweh, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. 33 They feared Yahweh, and served their own elohim, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence. 34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not Yahweh, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; 35 With whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other elohim, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: 36 But Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice. 37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other elohim. 38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other elohim. 39 But Yahweh your Elohim ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. 40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. 41 So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
We see here that the Nations feared YHVH, but also made themselves idols to worship. They were worshipping YHVH and at the same time mixing Pagan customs. Most people would say that the Israelites had hard hearts, and that they did ignorant things in rebellion against YHVH. My question is this. Has not Christianity done the same? The Roman Catholic Church has a tradition of kissing the statue of who they call “St. Peter”, but the actual history of that particular statue is it was originally named Jupiter, and it was originally in a Pagan “high place”. The entire Pantheon of “the gods” are seen all throughout Vatican City, as well as in the streets of Rome. How many statues of the dead Jesus do we see not only within Catholics, but also many Protestants? How many depictions of the death of Yeshua have we seen in the Churches? Why do people portray him as dead when he indeed is alive and well, sitting at the right hand of the Father? The command states,
Exo 20:4 ,Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I Yahweh thy Elohim am a jealous El, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
YHVH says do not make any graven images or anything in the likeness of ANYTHING IN HEAVEN, ON THE EARTH, OR IN THE DEPTHS BELOW!! That includes a graven image of the dead Messiah on the cross. This depiction of him is shameful, for he is not dead, He is risen! If a statue is set apart as Jupiter, you cannot place it in a so called Holy Place and kiss its foot, even to the point to where they had to repair the foot, and change its name to “St. Peter”. This is a gross disrespect for the Apostle and in direct violation of the Ten Commandments.
Another issue YHVH had with the Israelites was changing the appointed times of worship.
1Ki 12:32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. 33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
This sin that Israel committed was the same as what the Churches have done this day in age, they have forsaken the times of YHVH and the way he reckons time and have done things the way the Nations do, and have made for themselves so called Holy Days that the Word of YHVH never commanded. Just as an example, we have always been taught that “good Friday” was the day he died, and then the following SUN-day he resurrected. If this is Truth then Yeshua/Jesus is a liar, for he said himself he would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. Unless someone can correct my math skills, Friday to SUN-day is not three days and three nights. This is just one example. The way Easter observance is reckoned is not done in accordance to the Passover, and can at some times be weeks apart from each other. Again, there is no such commandments for any of the things I have spoken about. They are all traditions of men. Most today would argue that YHVH is not interested in the days we worship on, the way we worship, as long as we do it with a pure heart. The Apostle Paul seems to differ in this case.
Gal 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.(Pagan gods and goddesses) 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years! 11 I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain. 12 Brothers, I entreat you, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong. 13 You know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first, 14 and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not scorn or despise me, but received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. 15 What then has become of the blessing you felt? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have gouged out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?
Every single Pastor I spoke with on this topic used these very scriptures to try and justify not keeping the Feasts we are commanded to keep. When we put it in context, Paul is rebuking the Galatians for bringing the Pagan customs back in, not telling them that observing YHVH’s appointed times are done away with. Paul then says, “I am afraid I have labored over you in vain.” Paul then goes on to say “Become as I am”, so we must look to see how Paul was concerning the observance of the Appointed times.
Act 18:18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. 19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; 21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
Act 20:16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
1Co 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
We see here clearly that Paul continued to make the pilgrimages to Jerusalem for the Feasts and he also taught us to keep the Passover, calling it “the feast”. If we are told by Paul to “become as he is” then we should be keeping the Feasts as prescribed by YHVH through Moses as Yeshua/Jesus did. Now I have a question, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? He most assuredly did not teach contrary to the commandments we were given. He kept all the Feasts himself. Paul also tells us again in similar fassion;
1Co 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
So we know that both the Messiah, and the Apostle Paul, as well as all the other Apostles and disciples kept the Feasts. Why are people teaching that we are not commanded to do these things anymore? Have they been deceived into believing what is false? Has YHVH blinded them because of their lack of love for the Truth? Is it because most people do not read the Bible for themselves and trust a man to lead them, even though Yeshua said HE is the only Rabbi? I think all of these issues are plausible to be Truth. Then there are some who say that “Those Feasts are only for the Jews”. Can this hold up against scripture?
Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. 18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith Yahweh will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of ALL NATIONS that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
This says that during the 1000 year reign of Yeshua, after he has destroyed the Nations who will go up against Jerusalem, that ALL NATIONS will be required to observe the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem. There is not one single place in the entirety of scripture that says we do not need to observe these Feasts and many saying we do. So again I ask, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? We also see in other scriptures that when the Messiah returns, he will teach Torah to the Nations.
Isa 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of Yahweh’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house of the Elohim of Jacob; and he will teach us of HIS WAYS, and we will walk in HIS PATHS: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of Yahweh.
Why do so many think that we can pick and choose when and how we are to worship YHVH? Why is everyone worried about who we may offend by speaking Truth, but are never worried about whether or not they are offending YHVH? Most of the misunderstandings come from the letters of Paul, but I have longer have to keep the Feasts are in great error. The very verse they use to justify their actions are ironically the very same scriptures that condemn their actions. Peter warns us of Paul’s hard to understand letters, and that we should not be carried away by the errors of lawless people.
2Pe 3:15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.
We were warned by Peter, and we have shown how Paul can be misunderstood, especially concerning the Galatians 4 verses. Let us be as the Bereans, who received the Word with eagerness, and examined the scriptures to see if what Paul said was Truth. Do not throw off someone’s testimony just because it sounds strange to you, test it against the Word, not against the Pastors’ traditional teachings. The Messiah rebuked the Pharisees for rejecting the commandments of YHVH and holding to their traditions of men.
Mar 7:5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” 6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” 9 And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”‘ (that is, given to God)– 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13 thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
What makes the actions and traditions handed down to the Churches any different than that of the scribes and Pharisees? Their actions and deeds are the same, they reject the commandments and observe their own traditions that cannot be found anywhere in the scriptures, well, in a positive light anyway. How can a person who will stand at the Pulpit and teach that the commandments no longer apply, and yet mix Pagan customs with the worship of YHVH and not think they will be judged for doing so?
Deu 12:29 “When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30 take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?–that I also may do the same.’ 31 You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. 32 “Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.
2Pe 2:19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
If a person acts in the same manner of the scribes and Pharisees, are they not driven by the same Spirit? The Holy Spirit will lead a person into obedience to the laws of YHVH.
Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Rom 8:3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to deal with sin. He condemned sin in the flesh 4 SO THAT THE RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENT OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED IN US, who do not live according to the flesh BUT ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT. 5 For those who live according to the FLESH set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 To set our minds on the FLESH leads to DEATH, but to set our minds on the Spirit leads to life and peace. 7 That is why the mind that is set on the FLESH is hostile toward God. FOR IT REFUSES TO SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITY OF GOD’S LAW because it is powerless to do so. 8 Indeed, those who are under the control of the flesh CANNOT PLEASE GOD.
Father, I pray that the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf to hear, I pray that all will be tested against your Word, let YHVH be True and every man a liar, Amein Amein, HaShem Yeshua!
