Rejecting the Prophets

Rejecting  the Prophets- By: Eric Turner

How many people have questioned something in their Churches? How many have shown the leaders of the Church from the scriptures that they are in direct violation of what the Word of God says? How many have asked the Pastor tough questions and get the replies like, “I have been doing this a lot longer, you are misunderstanding the scriptures.” Or, “Are you gonna let me be the Pastor, or should I sit and let you teach”, or my personal favorite, “If you wanna learn, sit down and listen, but if you think you are gonna come here and teach me anything, you know ehere the door is”. All of these are comments I have heard directly myself by Pastors of various denominations when asking questions or showing from the Word of God that they are in doctrinal error.

So, the first thing I would like to remind these Pastors is this. Balaam also wanted to do His own will instead of the will of God, and God used an ass to correct Him just prior to an Angel he could not see in His path ready to destroy him, and Balaam beat the Faithfull and loyal ass because he failed to see the Angel with sword drawn in His path, ready to kill him, while the ass did see it and tried to stear out of the direction of death.

Num 22:20  And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.21  And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.22  And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.23  And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.24  But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.25  And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again.26  And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.27  And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.28  And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?29  And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.30  And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.31  Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.32  And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:33  And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.34  And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.35  And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

You see, YHVH opens the eyes of some, and the eyes of others he closes. When we “smite the ass” we could be condemning ourselves to certain death. This is exactly why we have so many scriptures to tell us how to handle people who claim they have Revelation from YHVH, and I guarantee you that not one scripture says “Do not listen to anything they say and tell them to leave”.

Here are but a few…

1Co 14:29  Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.30  If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.31  For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.32  And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

1Th 5:19  Do not quench the Spirit.20  Do not despise prophecies,21  but TEST EVERYTHING; hold fast what is good.22  Abstain from every form of evil.

Pro 18:13  He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Pro 19:20  Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.21  Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.

Act 17:10  The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue.11  Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.12  Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men.

Yes, there may be people who are misunderstanding the scriptures, yes, there may be False Prophets who are trying to stear you away from the Truth. Yes, there may be unlearned and new believers who do not have the wisdom to understand certain passages, but then again, there is also Balaam’s ass.

2Pe 2:15  Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing,16  but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

Jud 1:10  But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.11  Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.12  These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;13  Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.14  And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,15  To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.16  These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

Yeshua had an issue with the Pharisees over this same issue of rejecting the Prophets.

Mat 23:29  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30  saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31  Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32  Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33  You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? 34  Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35  so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of innocent Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36  Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. 37  “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! 38  See, your house is left to you desolate. 39  For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'”

Let us stop pushing our agendas on each other and actually start testing the beliefs we have by testing it against the scripture like the Bereans did. The Torah/Law of YHVH/God says that it is HE who sends the False Prophets to TEST YOU to see if you love Him with all your heart and soul.

Deu 13:1  “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2  and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ 3  you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4  You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear him and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. 5  But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

Why is it so important that we diligently test the words that men say they get from YHVH/God?

2Co 11:13  For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14  And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15  So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

Let us start actually doing Biblical things in Biblical ways and test everything as commanded. The Word of YHVH/God is given to us for a reason, they are the instruction manuals that teach us how to live in a World that is run by an enemy we cannot see or touch. If we TRULY have faith in the Word as we all tell ourselves, ask yourself, “Does my Pastor invite Prophesying? How will my leaders react to being questioned? What should I do if I find out a leader is leading me estray?” Start holding men accountable for their words, see if they truly represent the Kingdom of YHVH or if they are Satan’s ministers masquerading as ministers of righteousness. For more information on how to test a true prophet from a false prophet, see our teaching “Discerning False Prophets” . I pray and hope this has been edifying for you who are seeking truth, may YHVH bless your journey, HaShem Yeshua, Amein Amein!
